Do you have words?
Do your eyes know how to express the grand epiphanies of life, a subtle smirk that mocks authority, a smile that reflects a myriad of lessons and hands well versed with ways of dragging the attention to your words?
Would you lend them all to Poetry?
Why be just a Poet or a Performer when you can be both and channel your words into the art of Performance Poetry?
Performance Poetry or Spoken Word, being the love child of Poetry and Dramatics, involves not only your words but your expressions, actions and gestures as well. Spoken Word poets do not simply read the poem aloud, they enact it. They infuse life into the bland words with their voice and spice them up with gestures and props. They build bridges of poetry with pillars of drama. They do not recite poetry, they perform it with every last shard of their souls. They exemplify strength on issues of gender, race, religion, ethnicity, themselves in particular, the World in general and everything else that matters.
Even if you’re not a poetry fan, believe me you would still want to watch this. It’s that good.
If you are reading this, deep down, you must have a flair for playing with words and a desire to express your soul to the world. Also, you might have heard about Poetry Slams being arranged often in various college fests and on weekends in some cities. In the past couple of years, Performance Poetry has gathered quite an audience of its own in India, carving out a unique niche for poetry. And now, its time for Odisha to join the league.
Soul Journal, a group of poetry enthusiasts that tour the country, arranging Poetry Slams across various cities throughout India is now in Bhubaneswar to set you off on the path of self-exploration, discovery and expression. Weave out a portal of words and let your soul open up to breathe. Break out the monotony of letters on paper and give some action to your words. Let your words flow: stress upon some, and whisper some. Haven’t you ever wondered about how your poem sounds like? Haven’t you ever wanted to not just read aloud your poems to a quiet audience but perform them like the part of your being they are and narrate your poems like the story they are meant to convey? Well, here’s your chance!
Soul Journal presents to you ‘Soul Slam Bhubaneswar’ from a nationwide series of peculiar poetry slams in collaboration with Bhubaneswar Poetry Slam. An open mic to verse your poetry with not just words, but expressions and gestures as well. The event knows no bars of age.
Every lover of poetry, young or old, bold or senile, will find a platform and a bunch of audience here.
Address: Bakul Library, 16 Satya Nagar, Bhubaneswar on 17th July, 2016 from 15:00 to 20:00 hours.
The poetry slam scene in India might still be in its nascent stage but that doesn’t mean we have a dearth of talented poets and Bhubaneswar is now ready to display the strength in it’s verses!
You have a poem, we have a platform and a mic for you!
