As the sun dawned upon Kharagpur today, the city rose to a new and much awaited excitement, which marked the beginning of the biggest college fest in eastern India – Springfest IIT Kgp. The railway station was filled with students and the students were filled with excitement. With every hour passing by, the city got a new façade with students hailing from different parts of India to start the new year of 2014 in an enthusiastic way. From trains to buses and from rickshaws to cars, the stupefying attendance revived the “Dil se Desiness” of the fest.

Springfest 2014 evening kicked off in style at the Netaji Auditorium with a stupendous performance by the musical maestro Benny Prasad. Benny, who has the official record for playing at the maximum number of places around the world within hardly six years, set the ball rolling in style! He enthralled the jam packed auditorium with his ebullience and stage presence. The hour long show involved Benny gliding his hands on almost all parts of his guitar. The percussive guitar playing technique specially left the audience in awe. The best part about him playing his ‘pieces’ as he called them were his words of wisdom interim. Victim to false medication during his childhood, Benny suffered from arthritis when he was a teen. He was also considered an underachiever in his family. His speech instilled feelings of hope and aspirations amongst the crowd. ‘What he has achieved in such a small time is unbelievable’- exclaimed Vinni, a student of KIIT University who was present there for the show.

The crowd had just began to gear up for the fun filled evening, Agnee came as a cherry on the cake. As a tradition they began with Kabir’s shloka with their musical touch followed by some of their famous tracks like Kabira, Sadho re, the famous Aahatein from the famous reality show SplitsVilla. One of the major attraction was the fusion of Floyd’s ‘Wish You Were Here’ and ‘Shikayatein’ from the movie Lootera. Mohan Kanan kept the crowd in awe with his marvelous voice backed by a perfect combination of drums and guitar. A crowd enthralling performance coupled with an awesome weather made the first day of Spring Fest like an addiction for wanting more of this festival.

The first day was the perfect start to this four day fest. ‘We want to watch Underground Authority to take stage tomorrow’-said a group of Loyolites from Chennai. The performances brought heat to a rather cold day at the IIT campus. Numerous bonfires were seen to be lit up at various places later in the night and the canteens in campus were booming with groups of people. Overall, the first day could be termed as the ‘trailer to the movie’ that are to be followed in the next three days.

Here are some photographs from Agnee’s performance from the wonderful night!
