College… ummm the word itself adds lots of enthusiasm in a student’s life. Of course college is stepping stone to reach sublime heights and blah blah blah. However college is not just a place with strict faculty and aged Profs, libraries and labs, and sign boards that read ‘Switch off your mobiles’ and ‘Ragging is banned’. It’s also about fun, mirth, bunking classes, chitchatting, bitching and yeah having a full fledged ADDA.
And coming to my college, the most popular adda spot in my college is our new canteen. Gone are the times when all of us spent ages waiting for a bowl of lemon rice in long queues of our old dim canteen. The dishes were limited and not to forget those white dry Dosas which would always lack a crispy tint within. One interesting thing about that old canteen was that it always kept tempting the foodie lads with the aromatic breeze of the authentic south Indian spices from their classes. But, now it’s all about Multi cuisine dishes being served here at our current ADDA. The hub for the most happening people of our college is our canteen that covers the darwaja’s of North to the Idlis of south.
Also, a haven for most of us, as whenever we feel like bunking a class and have a cup of a frothy coffee or a glass of fruit juice, this is only place we look up to. And as one looks around they will be always reminded of the popular ad ‘Joh tera hai woh mera hai’. This place witnesses people sharing their feelings with all their gang, cute proposals, hard break-ups and much more.
Those graffiti-tied walls always draw the attention of all the people who pass by my college and think OMG its Vidyanikethan. Yet it’s also peculiar place to celebrate many of our birthdays without posing or saying a wide cheese to a cyber shot. Sorry! The college rules continue to act as party spoilers.
Well, I am a foodie and dive into Salads and Mayonnaise…Wish some day or the other my canteen serves me a Russian Salad or a smoked seafood platter!!
And now its SAPADU section where all the people do stand for longer times to get an authentic South Indian Thali. That vegetarian platter with oil dripping out of Okras with roasted peanuts and diced Mango pickles. Not to forget those fryums and lays chips which I usually get instead of regular papads. Ever thought about switching from a drumstick of Iyengar Sambar to a Bell pepper tossed in Soy? That aroma out of crushed garlic pods and slivered ginger add up to the unparalleled range of ingredients used here at the Rice section in canteen. And we get a choice to choose among a various range of Chinese cuisine dishes. Yet you need to tender exact change to get a token to taste all these.
And the dishes those usually get sold as hotcakes are Chaats and Dahi Papadis seasoned with rock salt with a dash of lemon that tickle the taste buds. Of course these also include the Sour and sweet Panipuris.
(P.S I am not a glutton yet)
Besides, different desserts complete a meal of mine and make me rush back to my class after my prolonged lunch journey at canteen. Many a times these also result in a short nap during post noon classes. Yet Canteen is always a time to rejoice and rejuvenate ourselves amid our busy schedules I really wish the same continues with me here on and would definitely stay with me as a ‘Moment to Remember’.
