The power of an idea is known is known to all. As audaciously claimed by a cellular company’s ad, an idea can indeed change your life. Well, on a practical note, it should at least seed a train of thoughts that when put into action, can go a long way in solving all the general problems of this planet. No kidding, here.
Happening in Bhubaneswar for the first time, TEDxMasterCanteenSquare – an independently organized TED event, is a humble effort of a group of college students to build an ecosystem around them where people realize the power of ideas and are also willing to share it with others. According to the official event page, TEDxMasterCanteenSquare is going to be held this weekend at Hotel Suryansh, Chandrasekharpur and will feature eight speakers from eight different walks of life who are expected to take stage and deliver thought-provoking talks on a wide span of subjects. In the past; Cartoonists, Farmers, Silicon Valley entrepreneurs, world leaders like Gordon Brown and Colin Powell have spoken at TED events and have enthralled and inspired a global audience.
TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 26 years ago, TED has grown to support those world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives. At TED, the world’s leading thinkers and doers are asked to give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes. Talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Benoit Mandelbrot, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Isabel Allende and former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown. Two major TED events are held each year: The TED Conference takes place every spring in Long Beach, California (along with a parallel conference, TEDActive, in Palm Springs), and TEDGlobal is held each summer in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Expectations and curiosity levels are running high since this is the first TEDx event happening in the twin cities and with speakers like Joy Bhattacharya, Sujit Mahapatra and Padmini Rout; this is something like-minded people would look forward to.
