Since time immemorial this has been a haunting question in every housewife’s mind usually created by a notorious kid who refuses to gulp down the vital vitamins and proteins embedded in the green vegetables and that question is-“what’s for dinner??” Throw these words at your mom and see her grunt while watching her favourite Saas-bahu saga ( Warning : Never insist on changing channels during this moment of madness.)
I arrived home after about five months and after initial excitement fizzed out, the one question which literally stumped the festive mood was- “Maa,what’s for dinner??”, and then she threw me a googly, a top spinner, an off-break, a leg-break, a bouncer and what not.
Being the only person non-diabetic person, in the household, with a normal Blood Pressure I had a tough time convincing my mother to make something not at all suitable for diabetic and BP patients-fried aloo paratha.
A survey conducted by the TOI states that the most stressful question the housewives face is- What’s for dinner ?
Miraculously breakfast and lunch seem to cause a lot of lesser problems than dinner! While the current generation prefers pizzas and burgers in their breakfast, lunch and dinner, there is a blatant disgust towards traditional green vegetables and then starts the clash of titans.
Sometimes the tension rises at such an escalating rate that the gen X has to bow down before the almighty mother and accept whatever she decides that’s the time when you witness the famous Kali avatar in your otherwise always-sweet and caring mother.
