This eatery has no name and we have decided to call it Maati Haandi Mutton Dokaan. Located in Acharya Vihar in a gullie adjacent to the Doordarshan Kendra, this place is a non veggie’s delight!
The mutton curry which the specialty of this place is unique because unlike conventional methods, the dish is cooked over flame from a wooden stove in an earthen pot ( maati handi ) . It is believed that the earthen pot gives a very tempting essence and the flame adds to the tenderness of the mutton that is cooked.
One candid observation: There is one great thing about street side eateries (barber shops as well) which you cannot miss. The kind of music that they play on their china phones/ Pocket FMs now. The sounds from the Nadeem Shravan era that fill your ears take you into a journey of nostalgia. Or disgust for some.
Where else in Bhubaneswar would you get an entire plate of steamed rice and half plate mutton for INR 60? The mutton jhola (curry/gravy) is an absolute delight when mixed with the piping hot rice and is nothing less than an orgasm to your taste buds.
