Hardly would anyone living in the twin cities have predicted March to be a month with mercury levels rising up to 40. Our quest to discover various economical ways to beat this harsh summer has taken us to a lesser known drink which is neither as famous as lassi’s nor cold drinks. It’s a Kaju Shake.

These types of kaju shake stalls are found in abundance here specially in Market Building and Shaheed Nagar. Made by grinding kaju with milk, the taste is nothing less than divine.

Narendra has been running his kaju shake-on-wheels for over 8 years now. A Rajasthani by origin, when asked how he came to Bhubaneswar, he replies quickly “kya karein, paisa kamaane ke liye aana padta hai.” Waking up at morning 4:30, they make the kaju shake everyday and store it in large steel containers. There is a provision of refrigeration in these “movable” stalls.

The ice-cream which they use as an add-on is extremely delicious. It’s a local made vanilla ice-cream which would make you question the hygiene but who cares as long as it tastes amazing.

Price:

  • 15 INR – small serving.
  • 20 INR – large serving.
