Whoever said that February is not the month of love, here’s another blow to your beliefs! And for all the girls out there waiting for a chance to confess their deepest feelings, here’s your chance! February 29th is your Day (also called as ladies day).

Well, the story dates back to the 5th Century, Ireland where this age old tradition started. Because of the societal rules back then, women were supposed to be the delicate and quiet ones who occasionally open their mouth and if they do it was to say “yes” to the commands of others! Rarely did the poor ladies get the opportunity to express their love. The cupid for them came in the form of St.Patrick who declared that women could go ahead with their desires and could propose to their eye-candies on February the 29th.

The tradition from then has gone on to be disguised into various other traditions in different countries. Scotland in 1288 apparently passed a law which stated that women could present a proposal for marriage to the man of their choice on this day. An addition was that no bachelor could say no to a leap year proposal and if he does he would have to succumb to a fine which could vary from a kiss to a silk gown! Ah! The one day atrocity on the man!

So once in every four years comes this day when the guys can take the back seat and let the girl drive their wheel of fortune.

But obvious, times have changed and against the irrational norms of the society we see girls opening up to their feelings just any other day. However, if you fall into the category of those who believe that the guy is the one who should bend down in his knees, let’s give way to a change!

So for all the guys, “you can keep your hopes high” and for all the girls, “go on, Take a Leap!”
