Basically the main idea of the movie is if you are broke, you can sell yourself and make buck loads of money. If you say “we fulfill the costume fantasies of bored women” it reads “we are whores who don’t sleep with you”. The lead actors have got dreamy physiques, the women are hot and so are the extras in the song and dance routines. The locations are not from India, so you won’t be finding poor, hungry people peeking at cars stuck in traffic. Instead the poor, hungry people will hit the gyms, turn into Greek Gods, apply for Visa and dance in firangi bachelorette parties. Applause !
What really happened to comedy? Golmaal has reached the third installment, for heaven’s sake. It’s a crying shame. Situations do not lead to humor anymore and nowadays movies are relying on one liners and distasteful digs at homosexuals, albinos, mute, people who stutter and almost everyone in the name of humor.
You won’t be clubbed to death by this movie. Desi Boyz looks like Godfather in front of Tees Maar Khan and Thank You or a Shawshank Redemption if we recall Rascals. It’s not painfully long, and some of the scenes are actually funny. It tries hard to be a sex comedy but without the sex, it would never be. Dubbing it a halfhearted attempt at a comedy is more apt.
A no brainer it was, since the very start and a no brainer approach might help you tide along with this movie. Akshay Kumar improves on the Thank You disaster and pitches in the best performance of the movie while John Abraham tries, tries and tries again. The ladies are objectified and never really have much to do in a film that focuses on male chemistry. Director Rohit Dhawan could really use a lot more skills to show craft with his movies. Some of the songs are entertaining but they do break the pace and could have been trimmed a little.
Watch it if you want to have a decent outing, don’t expect too much out of the movie. The plot was not devised by Dr. Fu Manchu, so you are not expected to be at the edge of your seat. Sit back, get the popcorn and always remember: THERE ARE MOVIES MUCH WORSE THAN THIS.
