It all started with MTV airing India’s own version of Coke Studio. An attempt to provide us hungry music maniacs, some tunes with a difference, off the Bolly-beaten track. MTV Coke Studio brings together folk artists from across the country and beyond, along with mainstream musicians to create tracks of pure magic and all-out fusion. And of course it has given a chance to many of us to debate over which is better, the original Coke Studio or the MTV version. So much so that it ends in virtual brawls in countless pages in Facebook and Youtube. Anyway it seems our search for quality music does not end here.

Star World has begun airing a new show titled The Dewarists. It is like a musical-travelogue-documentary kind of thing, where renowned musicians come together to compose music and discover a city. Hosted by Monica Dogra of Dhobi Ghat fame, the show enfolds itself in a beautiful location where the artists discover the folk and particular traditions and flavors of that place while making music. For the first episode, Vishal- Shekhar teamed up with the Grammy award-winning singer Imogen Heap in the picturesque setting of Jaipur, to compose a song “Minds without Fear”(inspired from Tagore’s poetry). Apart from the act of creating music the show scores for its excellent cinematography. And of course the track composed by the end of the show is worth it! Do see it for the other upcoming episodes featuring the awesome Pakistani singers Zeb and Haniya along with Shantanu Moitra and Swanand Kirkire, Indian Ocean and Mohit Chauhan and Parikrama and Agni.
