It was not until a re- run of The Graham Norton Show aired, when I came to know of an Aloe Blacc and a lovely song ‘I need a dollar’. Next thing, I got the album. The first time you hear the album, it feels like homage to Marvin Gaye. On subsequent hearings you will realize that it is homage to Marvin Gaye, Al Green and Bill Withers, people who made music the way it should be. Soul Singer Aloe Blacc creates music and writes songs that are a joy to hear.

The dreamy ‘I need a dollar’ sets the tone for this album that is a good throwback to the old times. Undoubtedly the track of the album, dollar is a song that captures your attention and makes you want to break into jive. Carefully blending social commentary, romance and a spirit of a struggling class, Good Times surprises you with its warmth and liveliness.

The title track ‘Good Things’ is a mellow ride and things stay pretty much the same way with other tracks like ‘Green lights’ and ‘You make me smile’. Good Things is essentially a revisiting of sorts, coming of age music for a hip hop artist.

Aloe Blacc born Egbert Nathaniel Dawkins III, is from California. He has worked in the hip-hop group ‘Emanon’ and the French Jazz group ‘Jazz Liberatorz’. His album ‘Good Times’ opened in September 2010, and is available in all leading music stores and Amazon, of course.
